How do I make small talk with my crush at work?

I think maybe I like this guy at work but I'm terrible at small talk and so I never really know what to converse with him about at the number one socializing locations here, the copier or the lounge at lunchtime. What kind of things can I ask/talk to him about that don't seem forced but help us get to know each other (I'm not sure yet if he is available but just being friends would be nice too). Note: There is no rule against fraternization here. In fact, there is something of a precedent to the contrary.
