i think you have to be honest with him. just tell him everything and that you miss him and if he would give you a second chance. Be casual and just be honest. If he says no, say that you hope that he will be happy with someone because he deserves it and if you could be friends. if he says no again just say ok and try not to get hurt. he was hurt at one point as well. if he says yes, just be careful your second time around. Don't take out your feelings on him.
