Why do people seem to take joy in Brittany Spears misfortunes?

All I have been hearing is about how she is and how she flopped at the awards show. I am in no way, shape, form or fortune a Spears fan but I do feel a little compion is in order. Here is a young lady that is dealing with drug and alcohol problems, divorce, lawsuits and other troubles and instead of praying for her or offering words of support or encouragement, our society can find nothing better to do than to ridicule her and take joy in her demise. That's not right.
