CALLING ALL VETS AND CAT OWNERS- is this cat earmites?

My cats ears are twitching a lot more than normal and he keeps shaking his head. These seem to match the symptoms of earmites but there is no waxy buildup in the ears and there is no nasty odour what i can smell. Please help me, i dont get paid for a while so i cant take him to the vets, and hes never had them before so im not sure. Theres a product at pets at home i can buy, but is likley the cause of his head shaking??.
