Are more white people arrested in america than black people?

Our cl was discussing issues in America and someone said that statistically more white people are arrested than black people but more black people go to jail because white people have better means of getting out of trouble. I simply don't believe with today's freedoms that white people get off more than black people. I would like to know if this if true.
